GravelCalc is a collection of free planning tools for homeowners, landscapers, and anyone preparing an aggregate order.

What we do

Our calculators turn project measurements into practical estimates for area, volume, weight, waste allowance, and optional material cost. The main gravel calculator supports rectangular and circular areas and lets users select a common material or enter a supplier-provided density. Separate tools address pea gravel, French drain trenches, and the layered materials used below pavers.

The goal is to make the first conversation with a landscape supplier easier. A user can bring both volume and weight estimates, explain the material selected, and compare the result with the supplier's density, minimum order, and delivery requirements.

How calculations are prepared

Every estimate begins with standard geometry. Area is multiplied by finished depth to calculate volume. Volume is then multiplied by bulk density to estimate weight. Waste is added only after the base quantity is calculated. Unit conversions are shown so users can compare cubic feet, cubic yards, cubic meters, liters, pounds, short tons, kilograms, and metric tonnes.

French drain calculations subtract the approximate cylindrical displacement of one pipe. Paver calculations keep compacted base, bedding sand, and paver count separate because these layers use different measurements and material assumptions.

Accuracy and limitations

Gravel is a natural bulk material. Delivered weight and coverage vary with stone size, grading, moisture, compaction, void space, excavation conditions, and supplier practices. Calculator results are planning estimates, not engineering specifications or supplier guarantees. Structural driveways, foundations, retaining walls, drainage failures, accessibility-sensitive surfaces, and work governed by local codes should be reviewed by an appropriate professional.

Before placing a large order, users should remeasure the site and ask the supplier which density and rounding rules apply to the selected product.
